Scholar Idjagboro—BU class of 2022, Dance Performance and International Relations major from Maryland. Scholar was born in Nigeria and came to the United States in 2007. She is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish. Since joining the Etheridge Knight Project, she has worked with community partners to develop programming that offers insight on Knight’s life and work and embodies his inclusive ethos. She learned how Etheridge Knight was able to overcome internal and external struggles and build a community around himself: his poems brought people together and made them stay together. Having the opportunity to talk to all the different people Etheridge Knight has influenced helps her understand how a single person can impact lives in a positive way and how a single voice can not only bring people together but also change people’s lives.
